Divinely Designed Gender Roles
Our Father and Mother in Heaven created their spirit children in their own image, male and
female, for a divine purpose; to create bodies for their spirit children when they came to earth,
and provide them with the support of a father and a mother and a family to help them grow and
develop successfully in mortality, so they could return to Him when their mortal probation was
Each gender has specific roles and abilities to accomplish divine purposes within marriage and
the family. Though each gender is different from the other, they compliment and support each
other. Both masculine and feminine characteristics and influences are important to provide a
more complete support system for raising well rounded, strong and healthy children and stable
By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness, and are
responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are
Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and
mother who honor their marital vows with complete fidelity. For God's Plan to be the most
successful, His children need to be born within a family that can support them and help them to
grow best. Studies show that children thrive best when raised by both a father and a mother
who are married and faithful to each other.
Traditional male and female marriage, as instituted by God, provides the masculine and
feminine balance needed by a child. Though every couple is unique, most fathers and mothers
have similar characteristics or qualities. Fathers are usually tougher on their kids and tend to
challenge them, expecting more or encouraging them to take risks and explore the world around
them. Men are generally more physically interactive with their children, especially with their
sons. Whereas mothers are usually more gentle, nurturing, and emotionally supportive. They
are most often a civilizing...
Marriage between a man and woman is essential to God's Eternal Plan. Salvation is an
individual and personal quest that requires faith in and a covenant relationship with Jesus
Christ. But exaltation and eternal life with God is a joint quest; it requires a man and a woman
to make and keep eternal covenants with each other and with God. The only way to inherit all
that God has and is requires the uniting of the opposite sex, male and female, which is required
to multiply or create a posterity. God's work and glory is to bring to pass the immortality and
eternal life of His children. As we progress to become like Him, we too will be engaged in the
same work; to bring to pass our immortality and eternal life, and that of our posterity. We glorify
God, by progressing and increasing in our glory; in light, truth, knowledge and power. He
cannot increase in His glory without us increasing in ours.
At the end of our mortal probation, we will be judged by God. If we were evil in this life, we...
Before we came to this earth, in our pre-mortal existence, God organized us into family units
with fathers, mothers and children according to our choice and agency. Additionally, we were
each given certain roles, stewardships, and special work or missions to fulfill on this earth. Our
family and children were and are our "heritage of the Lord", they are our divine inheritance from
God and the source of our greatest joy in this life and throughout eternity. There is nothing of
greater worth or importance than our family relationships. They are meant to last forever, and
are necessary in our quest for immortality and eternal life to become like God.
Families designed by God are the perfect organizations to provide all that is needed for each
member to grow and progress successfully. Husbands and wives are given the solemn
responsibility to love and care for each other and their children. Creating a loving environment
and strong relationships is critical to the success of families and indi...
Mortal life is of ultimate importance in God's eternal plan; it is sacred and holy. Without the
opportunity for us to live mortally on this earth, we cannot receive our physical bodies,
experience opposition and testing to progress and fulfill our divine destiny to become like God.
Because Satan and his followers cannot receive mortal bodies or experience mortal life to
progress and become like God, they try to devalue and end our lives and progress on this earth.
They also try to convince us that creating life and a family is undesirable and a barrier to our
success and happiness. As a result, children conceived inside and outside of marriage today,
are often unwanted or seen as a burden.
Additionally, one of Satan's greatest lies is that we can have sexual relations inside or outside of
marriage and easily and conveniently get rid of the lives we have created without any
consequences. Aborting a fetus or unborn child is ending a life; it is murder. Tragically, there
have been over 1.5...
The means by which mortal life is created is divinely appointed. Without a way to bring children
into this world, God could not fulfill His work and His Glory; to bring to pass our immortality and
eternal life with Him. God gave us, His children, the power of procreation; not for our pleasure,
but for His will, to accomplish His work. When we seek to use that sacred, God-given power
solely for our own pleasure; we work against Him and His plan, and we cause much pain and
suffering in our own lives and in the lives that we create. We cause a disintegration of families,
the foundation of our societies, that leads to the downfall of nations and eventually our entire
God gives us commandments that help us follow His plan to become like Him. He gave us the
Law of Chastity; sexual relationships only between a man and a woman to whom we are legally
and lawfully wedded. And He commanded us, "Thou shalt not commit adultery "; have sexual
relationships with those we are not married...
The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for
parenthood as husband and wife. The Bible records; "So God created man in his own image, in
the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them,
and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth."
He also said, "Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat, but of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, nevertheless, thou mayest choose for
thyself, for it is given unto thee; but remember that I forbid it, for in the day thou eatest thereof
thou shalt surely die".
The only way that Adam and Eve could keep God's first commandment; multiply and replenish
the earth, is by having children. However, they had immortal bodies that could not conceive
children. Satan tempted Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit. He convinced her that by partaking
of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, she and Adam...
Throughout the ages, Satan and his followers have deceived and led astray God's children,
through mingling the philosophies of men with the scriptures. After many translations and
translators being influenced by Satan to change or leave out essential doctrines, the Bible no
longer contains the fullness of God's word.
Being a merciful and a just God, He restored the fullness of the gospel to the earth, after
preparing a nation where religious freedom was granted and protected. The gospel was
restored early in the nineteenth century through the prophet, Joseph Smith, a fourteen year old
farm boy from upper New York State. As He did in times of old with Samuel, David and Joseph
of Egypt, God called a young man from an unlikely family and humble background to be a
powerful instrument in His hand. In answer to young Joseph's prayer and petition to know what
church was true, God appeared to him in a grove of trees in the spring of 1820 along with His
only begotten son, Jesus Christ. They tol...
Gender is an essential characteristic of individual mortal, pre-mortal, and eternal identity and
purpose. In our pre-mortal life, we lived as male and female spirit children of God. When we
were given the gift of life on this earth through birth, we received a mortal body with the same
gender as our spiritual body. After we die and are resurrected, we will receive an immortal body
of the same gender as our spiritual and physical body. Whatever gender we were born with on
this earth, was the gender we were in the pre-mortal life as spirits, and it will be our gender for
eternity after this life.
Today many are confused and are experiencing "gender dysphoria". Sadly it is a real struggle
for some to identify as the gender they were born with, but this does not change the fact that we
are either male or female, created in the image of Gods; our Heavenly Father and Mother.
Though we can change our appearance through surgeries and hormone therapies to look and
feel like the opposite gender...
The idea that human beings can become gods and goddesses may seem "blasphemous" due to
the evolution of man's belief or understanding of the character and nature of God, but this
Latter-day Saint belief would have sounded more familiar to the earliest generations of
Christians than they do to many modern Christians. Many church fathers (influential
theologians and teachers in early Christianity) spoke approvingly of the idea that humans can
become divine. One modern scholar refers to the “ubiquity of the doctrine of deification”—the
teaching that humans could become God—in the first centuries after Christ’s death. The church
father Irenaeus, who died about A.D. 202, asserted that Jesus Christ “did, through His
transcendent love, become what we are, that He might bring us to be what He is Himself.”
Clement of Alexandria (ca. A.D. 150–215) wrote that “the Word of God became man, that thou
mayest learn from man how man may become God.” Basil the Great (A.D. 330–379) also
celebrated this p...
