Entitled to a Mother and Father

May 5, 2018

Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and
mother who honor their marital vows with complete fidelity. For God's Plan to be the most
successful, His children need to be born within a family that can support them and help them to
grow best. Studies show that children thrive best when raised by both a father and a mother
who are married and faithful to each other.

Traditional male and female marriage, as instituted by God, provides the masculine and
feminine balance needed by a child. Though every couple is unique, most fathers and mothers
have similar characteristics or qualities. Fathers are usually tougher on their kids and tend to
challenge them, expecting more or encouraging them to take risks and explore the world around
them. Men are generally more physically interactive with their children, especially with their
sons. Whereas mothers are usually more gentle, nurturing, and emotionally supportive. They
are most often a civilizing influence in the family and tend to be concerned with the safety and
protection of their children.

Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded on the principles of faith,
prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational
activities. When parents model and teach these principles, family relationships are
strengthened and family life becomes a beautiful and divine experience. Though no family or
child is perfect, striving to live by these principles helps individuals and families become better,
stronger, happier and more successful in all facets of their life.

Children also need positive male and female role models to teach them who they are and how
to perform their family and societal roles and responsibilities. As they see how their parents
respectfully and lovingly interact, they learn how to interact with each other, and are better
prepared to become a successful parent and spouse in the future. As sons see their fathers
leading, providing for and protecting their families, they learn how to be effective leaders, fathers
and husbands. As daughters experience their mother leading side by side with their father,
teaching, taking care of them and nurturing them, they learn to become effective leaders and
nurturing mothers themselves. Though both roles can be performed by either the father or the
mother, families are generally most successful when they perform the role they were divinely
designed for. The important roles of fathers provide for the critical roles of mothers; the ability to
provide for the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of God's children, so they can
learn, grow and progress successfully.

Fidelity in marriage is also a huge factor to a child's success. When children feel the love and
strength of their parents marriage, they feel safe, secure and peaceful in their family and world.
When there is infidelity, it often leads to divorce and broken homes, which causes much
emotional distress and instability for the husband, wife and children involved. Divorce and out
of wedlock sexual relationships often leads to fatherless children. Studies show that the
majority of those in prisons come from broken or fatherless homes.

Being born into a family, and raised by both a father and a mother who are legally married and
committed to each other is every child's birthright. It is the pattern that God designed for His

children, to ensure their greatest success in this mortal life and throughout eternity. The family
is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children.
